A journey through the dark woods
"If we're treading on thin ice. Then
we might as well dance." - Jesse Winchester
we might as well dance." - Jesse Winchester
You can wander, blindfolded, across the thin ice of life. Happily encased in an envelope of self-deception. Ignorant under the spell of self-hypnosis. Reality, the way things really are, will eventually, without invitation, intrude. The ice will crack. Solidity will evaporate. Call it the Dark Night of the Soul. Call it Karma's reckoning. Call it by any name. It answers to many. It confronted me across the Oncologist's desk, early 2013. Prostate Cancer was its adopted name that February morning. The ice had cracked and, scrambling onto an unfamiliar shore, I could see nothing but the Dark Woods. And now that they had found me I resolved not to go round them. The journey now would be from Light to Light. This ongoing, ever developing, spiritual journey through the heart of fear has been one of wonder wherein adversity and trauma has been re-evaluated. Where belief patterns and inherent conceptions have been challenged. Beyond the darkness clear paths are now visible. Avenues to the unseen, the sensed, the creative spirit. Paths that lead to the healing power of creativity. Armed with two powerful creative sources, music and the written word, I have devoted this site to the spirit inside. Step by step opening the door to that inner voice, long ignored. This journey's story is a testament that adversity is not always a curse. Adversity and trauma can heal. They can be just as powerful gifts than that offered by anything found in the pool of modern medicine and scientific technology.
